Cruise Description

9 Night Cruise sailing from Liverpool roundtrip aboard Black Watch.

Set sail from Liverpool and experience an incredible exploration of Iceland, taking in three sides of this spectacular country on a shorter, simply unforgettable adventure packed with highlights from beginning to end.

First you’ll call into Reykjavik after spending just two relaxing days at sea. Not only is the stunning Icelandic capital home to an abundance of interesting museums, galleries and delightful cafés, it’s also a gateway to the wonders of the Golden Circle. Not to be missed are the ‘Big Three’: the Gullfoss ‘Golden Waterfall', the Geysir Hot Springs and Thingvellir National Park. The mineral-rich waters of the Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa are within easy reach too. Up next is Ísafjörður, where you can embark on an exhilarating kayaking tour and immerse yourself in untouched fjord scenery; or perhaps take a boat trip to Vigur Island, home of thousands of sea birds. From here it’s also possible to tour to the unspoilt Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, which boasts beautiful landscapes and huge colonies of various bird species.

The following day will begin in Akureyri, ideally located for taking tours to the awe-inspiring Godafoss ‘Waterfall of the Gods’ and Lake Mývatn. The beauty of these natural wonders has to be seen to be believed. Alternatively you’ll have the chance join once-in-a-lifetime whale watching excursions, going in search of Minke and Humpback Whales, as well as dolphins and porpoises. Once back on board Black Watch you will enjoy an evening of memorable scenic cruising, with the outstanding beauty of Eyjafjörður, Hrisey Island and Skjálfandi Bay to take in from the ship’s decks. Finally you’ll visit the town of Seyðisfjörður after cruising the Borgarfjörður Eystri and Seyðisfjörður. Savour the magnificent scenery and admire the colourful houses here; or perhaps tour to the enchanting Skálanes Nature and Heritage Centre. Your time in Iceland will come to the perfect end with scenic cruising by the soaring mountains and rugged cliffs of a string of breathtaking waterways.

Highlights of this cruise:

Liverpool, UK
Liverpool - the home of The Beatles - is one of Britain's most iconic and interesting cities.

Reykjavik, Iceland
Overlooked by the impressive Hallgrímskirkja bell tower, Reykjavik is a stunning city with a number of interesting museums and some of the country’s most beautiful natural wonders within easy reach. Highlights include the Blue Lagoon Spa, Thingvellir National Park, the Gullfoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls and the Geysir hot spring area.

Akureyri, Iceland
On your journey to Akureyri you’ll sail through the longest fjord in Iceland, Eyjafjordur, a wonderful prelude to your time on shore. If you’re looking for culture then head to Listagil, the centre of arts, crafts and design in Akureyri. To discover the surrounding natural wonders, take a sightseeing tour to Godafoss, ‘Waterfall of the Gods’ and Lake Myvatn. A visit here also offers the rare chance to go whale watching and see these splendid creatures in their natural environment: look out for Blue, Fin, Humpback, Minke and Sei whales.

Seyðisfjörður (Seydisfjordur), Iceland
Seyðisfjörður is regarded as one of Iceland’s most picturesque towns. Its remoteness and hard-to-reach location makes a visit here even more special: one of the advantages of cruising the Icelandic coast. The valley above the town echoes to the sound of the 25 thundering waterfalls formed by the river Fjaroara as it cascades down to a lagoon at the head of the fjord.
