Cruise Description

8 Night Cruise sailing from Liverpool roundtrip aboard Black Watch.

Be captivated by classic Norwegian scenery in the spring as Black Watch sails breathtaking, size-restricted waterways to a trio of wonderful fjordland destinations. From on board your ship and during your time ashore you’ll experience some of the highest-rated and most breathtaking sights in the region, creating memories which will last a lifetime.

After embarking in Liverpool this eight night cruise begins with a sail around the very top of the UK – passing the fascinating basalt columns of Fingal’s Cave along the way – and across the North Sea to the first stop on your foray into the fjords, Olden. Situated amongst rolling valleys, tall mountains and lush-green meadows, this charming little village is a real gem and a delight to explore. It’s also your gateway to stunning natural wonders such as the Briksdal Glacier – an arm of Europe’s largest inland glacier, Jostedalsbreen – and the beautiful Lovatnet Lake. Your first day in the fjordland will conclude with an evening of scenic cruising along the glass-like waters of Nordfjord – one of longest and most picturesque fjords – and by the soaring Hornelen sea cliff.

Arriving in Flåm the following morning offers you the opportunity to spend the day enjoying some of the very best fjordland experiences. Perhaps you’ll opt to marvel at the awe-inspiring scenery surrounding Flåm from the Stegastein Lookout, presenting unspoilt views from 650 metres above Aurlandsfjord; or catch a ride on the iconic Flåmsbana Railway and see the cascading Kjosfossen Waterfall up-close. Another evening of unforgettable scenic cruising follows as Black Watch diverts into the spectacular, UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord – just 250 metres wide at its narrowest point – before sailing on to Bergen. In your final Norwegian call you can take the day to wander around the colourful Bryggen Wharf and the bustling fish market; climb Mount Fløyen via the funicular railway and enjoy the views from the top; and stop by Troldhaugen, an interesting museum which was once the home of Edvard Grieg. As you head for home you’ll also take in the rugged scenic landscapes of Scotland’s Shetland Islands with a stop at Lerwick en route back to Liverpool.

Highlights of this cruise:

Liverpool, UK
Liverpool - the home of The Beatles - is one of Britain's most iconic and interesting cities.

Olden, Nordfjord, Norway
The charming village of Olden is set amongst green meadows – ablaze with colourful flowers throughout the summer – and babbling brooks meandering between pretty houses. It’s the gateway to the famous Briksdal glacier arm, which is set between tumbling waterfalls and high peaks.

Flåm (Flam), Sognefjord
Flåm is a tiny village on the banks of the Aurlandsfjord, one of the branches of the beautiful Sognefjord – the longest and deepest fjord in Europe. The setting is utterly spectacular.

Bergen, Norway
The Hanseatic city of Bergen has many attractions, including the UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf, with its colourful timbered houses and cobbled streets; a vibrant fish market; and the Troldhaugen Museum, the former home of Norway's most famous composer, Edvard Grieg.
