Cruise Description

8 Night Cruise sailing from Southampton roundtrip aboard Braemar.

Stray away from Spain’s ‘beaten track’ and uncover the country’s more authentic side, taking advantage of Braemar’s smaller size to delve deeper into one of the lesser-known, yet most rewarding, beautiful and diverse Spanish regions.

The first stop on your unforgettable exploration of ‘Green Spain’ is La Coruña. Docking just 400 metres from the heart of this historic city means impressive landmarks such as the Galician Baroque-style Cornide Palace, the ancient Church of Santiago and the UNESCO-listed Torre de Hercules are all within easy reach. La Coruña is also your gateway to spectacular Santiago de Compostela – one of Christendom’s three global spiritual capitals – and its simply breathtaking cathedral. Then in the pretty Asturian city of Avilés, you’ll berth alongside the world-renowned Óscar Niemeyer International Centre – a ‘must-visit’ attraction during your day here. Once again you’ll be close to a selection of other highlights too, including the fine architecture of the Old Town and a number of traditional siderias where you can enjoy a glass or two of authentic Asturian sidra. Alternatively you could take a trip to Oviedo to marvel at the grand gothic-style cathedral and a number of UNESCO-listed sites; or tour to the Atlantico Botanical Garden, the only one of its type in Northern Spain.

Your very special Spanish adventure will then continue in Santander, capital of Cantabria. Nestled on the picturesque coast and boasting gorgeous beaches, Santander is the perfect place to soak up the Cantabrian sunshine. It’s also ideally placed for tours to the medieval towns of Santillana del Mar and Comillas; while there are also opportunities to discover the stunning Picos de Europa Mountains and the UNESCO-listed Altamira Cave paintings too. Finally, an overnight stay in Getxo will offer you the chance to sample an authentic slice of the Basque Country lifestyle. Perhaps choose to take a short journey to bustling Bilbao, where you can visit the unmistakable Guggenheim Museum; venture to the Rioja wine region and find out how some of Spain’s finest tipples are made; or head to San Sebastian, famed for its delicious pintxos and other Basque cuisine.
