Cruise Description

8 Night Cruise sailing from Vienna to Strasbourg aboard Beethoven.

DAY 1: VIENNA
We board in Vienna at 4.00pm. and settle into our cabins. We are introduced to the crew over a welcome cocktail. We set sail around 5.00pm to Passau. We have dinner on board this evening.

DAY 2: VIENNA - PASSAU
We take all meals on board as we spend today navigating one of the prettiest stretches of the Danube: the Strudengau, famous in times gone by for its whirlpools, the Nibelungengau and all its legends. We have an afternoon of dancing on board and we arrive at the end of the afternoon in Passau. Here we have some free time or we can join a discovery tour of the town with on on-board hostess. A university town with a rich musical and theatrical heritage, Passau’s beautiful baroque buildings and romantic narrow streets will linger long in the memory. We return on board for dinner and continue our cruise to Regensburg.

DAY 3: PASSAU - REGENSBURG - NUREMBERG
Our morning is spent cruising, and we take buffet breakfast and lunch as we cruise. We arrive in the early afternoon in Regensburg. Fourth largest city in Bavaria, Regensburg is an important industrial centre (BMW, Siemens and Triumph). Its historic centre has many well-preserved buildings and artefacts accumulated during some 2000 years of existence. We have an optional guided tour of Regensburg. During our visit, the boat heads for Kelheim where we will re-board later. Dinner on board this evening is followed by an evening of entertainment. Our cruise continues to Nuremberg through the night.

DAY 4: NUREMBERG - ROTHENBURG - BAMBERG
We arrive early this morning in Nuremberg and we have buffet breakfast on board. We have an optional guided visit of the town. Nuremberg seems to have stepped right out of the Middle Ages. “The Treasure Chest of the German Empire”, the old town, is clustered around the old market square: Gothic buildings, half-timbered houses and townhouses. During our visit, the boat heads for Erlangen, where we re-board in time for lunch. Our afternoon is spent cruising with entertainment provided on board. Dinner on board this evening is followed by an evening of entertainment. We moor for the night in Bamberg.

DAY 5: BAMBERG - ROTHENBURG - WURZBURG
We set sail early this morning and take both buffet breakfast and lunch on board as we cruise all morning towards Schweinfurt. We arrive in the early afternoon in Schweinfurt which is our starting point for an optional excursion to Rothenburg. A magnificent town located on a hill, Rothenburg is well-known for its well-preserved medieval old town with many fine half-timbered houses and craft shops hidden away behind its walls along attractive, narrow streets. Rothenburg is an absolute “must see” along the Romantic Road. We return on board in Gerlachshausen for dinner and our cruise continues to Wurzburg, where we arrive during the night.

DAY 6: WURTZBURG - WERTHEIM
We have buffet breakfast on board this morning before an optional visit of Wurzburg (residence of the Prince-Bishops). A town built on the right bank of the Main, Wurzburg is a magnificent stop along the Romantic Road. It is a truly idyllic setting among vineyards, located under the shadows of its imposing citadel – a lasting symbol of the power of the Prince-Bishops. During our visit of Wurzburg, the boat heads for Karlstad, where we re-board at the end of the morning. We have lunch on board and continue our cruise to Wertheim. We have dinner and overnight on board.

DAY 7: WERTHEIM - MILTENBERG - ASCHAFFENBURG
We have buffet breakfast on board this morning and arrive at daybreak in Miltenberg. We have a discovery tour of the town with on on-board hostess, visiting the market square surrounded by half-timbered houses, the Main Street, the former Town Hall. Such attractions ensure Miltenberg deserves its nickname of the “ Pearl of the Main. We have lunch on board and continue our cruise to Aschaffenburg. We have dinner and overnight on board.

DAY 8: ASCHAFFENBURG - FRANKFURT - MAINZ
We have buffet breakfast on board this morning and set sail for Frankfurt. Here we have an optional guided visit of Frankfurt. A bustling business city and major trading centre, Frankfurt’s eclectic mix of ancient and modern astonishes and delights visitors. We return on board for lunch and continue our cruise to Mainz. Situated at the confluence of the Rhine and the Main, with its 1000-year-old cathedral towering over the town, Mainz is the town of Gutenberg and has strong links with both the past and the present day. We arrive at the end of the afternoon in Mainz and have a discovery tour of the town with on on-board hostess. Tonight we have our Gala Dinner and evening on board as we continue our cruise to Strasbourg through the night.

DAY 9: MAINZ - STRASBOURG
We have both buffet breakfast and lunch on board as we spend the morning cruising. Entertainment is provided on board during our cruise to Strasbourg. We pass through the two largest locks on the Rhine: the Iffezheim and the Gambsheim. . We arrive in Strasbourg around 2.00pm. End of our journey.
